The ISDN to IP transition is daunting and affects broadcasters across a range of industries. In this month’s issue of TV Technology, Jay Yeary discusses how engineers in television can handle the shift.
“Whether we move from ISDN to IP is no longer a question but more a matter of time,” writes Yeary, “so we need to examine concerns about how to make the transition smoothly.”
Yeary goes on to explore some of the common concerns with IP networks, including reliability and packet loss. While these factors can affect transmission, there are ways to mitigate them, says Yeary. When discussing potential solutions, he mentions BRIC-Link as a reliable codec for point-to-point IP audio transmission.
