Comrex Version Security Concerns and Firmware Fixes

NEW! Gagl

The perfect way to get more out of your codec.

Gagl is a cloud-based remote contribution service that allows up to five users to send and receive audio from their smartphones or laptops. That audio is Gagl’d (if more than one user) and delivered to a Comrex IP codec (like BRIC-Link II).

Gagl is a great way to get guests on the air from anywhere, easily.

Learn more about Gagl

Gagl is now available! Sign up directly on our website by visiting the Gagl web page.

Gagl subscriptions are $35.00 USD per month (or save $70.00 on a Gagl annual subscription with a code from a Comrex audio dealer or from us directly).

Free 14-day trial available with all new subscriptions.

Comrex Switchboard is a feature that allows users to bypass common IP networking snags (like private LANs and firewalls) by routing data through a private server maintained by Comrex.

Switchboard within the hardware codec enables the following functions:

  • Comrex codecs can sync with a cloud based server and deliver status information
  • Comrex codecs can determine their public IP address and the type of any NAT-style router ahead of the codec, and display that information to the user
  • Comrex codecs can display presence, status, NAT info and IP addresses of other codecs within the same fleet
  • Comrex codecs can share this information with codecs outside the fleet (Shares)
  • Comrex codecs can take instruction from the server on how best to traverse NATs when placing a call between two codecs

Learn more about Switchboard

Switchboard is available for BRIC-Link codecs through the one-time purchase of a license key per codec. Contact a Comrex audio dealer to purchase.

Fleet Commander

Fleet Commander is a software application for controlling multiple Comrex IP audio codecs simultaneously. Rather than logging into each codec individually and juggling a desktop full of tabs, Fleet Commander puts you in control of your codec fleet through one unified interface. With the ability to manage all codecs from one simple window, this easy-to-use tool can save time and increase productivity for busy engineers.

Fleet Commander contains all of the functionality of the Web-based Interface, but also comes with a few more features like active metering and the ability to copy peers and profiles between codecs. A Windows application, Fleet Commander can be used to manage every Comrex IP Audio codec in your fleet (depending on CPU and network limitations).

  • Simple to use
  • Unified interface for multiple codec management
  • Compatible with Windows 7, 8, and 10

Fleet Commander is available as a one-time purchase of a license key per computer. Contact a Comrex audio dealer to purchase.

Comrex Connect Modems

Cellular wireless data connections like 3G and 4G LTE have redefined the way remote broadcasts are done. In particular, USB cellular modems make connecting to these networks fast and simple. But the number of USB cellular data devices offered by cell phone providers is dramatically decreasing in favor of cellular Wi-Fi Hotspots. Additionally, many of the off-the-shelf modems offered by carriers are not designed to meet the rigorous demands of the 24/7 news cycle.

Comrex designed the Comrex Connect Modem to support the unique needs of remote broadcasters. A high-powered, industrial strength 4G/LTE modem, the Connect Modem is also 3G compatible. Outfitted with a high-gain antenna, the Connect Modem is more powerful than most USB data modems available on the market, to handle the heavy data load of an IP audio broadcast.

BRIC-Link II can only use a Comrex Connect Modem in HotSwap mode.

The Connect Modem INITIALLY came in four varieties to support connections to Verizon, AT&T, International (for outside of US), and CJ (for use in China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and Brazil) networks, and was PTCRB and carrier certified to meet all necessary regulations.

As of July 2020, the ACCESS Connect Modem comes in three varieties (VZW/ATT, International, and CJ). The NEW Connect Modem for ACCESS can work with ACCESS 2USB, ACCESS NX, ACCESS Rack, ACCESS NX Rack, ACCESS MultiRack, and BRIC-Link II (when used with HotSwap).

VZW/ATT Comrex Connect modems purchased after 7/1/2020 will only work on units with FW 4.5p3 or higher.
